Training and education of point-of-care ultrasound for critical care

Abstract:The point-of-care ultrasound for critical care has been widely used in the diagnosis and assessment of critically ill patients for its advantages of convenience and rapidness. In order to ensure this technique to be applied safely and effectively, the point-of-care ultrasound for critical care requires a well-structured and competent training and education program, and also a formal certification system. It is necessary to include this training in regular training programs for emergency, anesthetic and critical physicians. The certification system should be special designed for the point-of-care ultrasound for critical care, and should be a standardized system. The training and education should be focused, graded, and developed diversified teaching methods. At present, there are still some difficulties in training and education, which will need to be overcome.
