The application value of pulmonary rehabilitation training in convalescence of patients with severe or critical Corona Virus Disease 2019

Abstract:ObjectiveTo explore the clinical value of pulmonary rehabilitation training in convalescence of patients with severe or critical Corona Virus Disease 2019(COVID19). MethodsFrom February 3, 2020 to February 29, 2020, the clinical data of 11 COVID-19 patients in convalescence at Dabie Mountain Regional Medical Center in Huanggang were retrospectively analyzed. Exercise tolerance and lung function before training and 2 weeks after training were compared. ResultsBefore pulmonary rehabilitation training, the lung function included forced expiratory volume 1 (FEV1), forced vital capacity (FVC), FEV1/FVC, FEV1%pred were (1.73±0.46)L/min, (2.34±0.64)L/min, (74.82±11.91)%, (60.17±7.91)%, respectively. Brog score was (2.81±0.40) points and 6 min walking distance (6MWD) was (348.45±83.29)m. After 2 weeks, the Borg score and 6MWD were (1.50±0.74)points and (425.00±68.29)m, they were significantly better than those before training (t=-6.80, 7.94, all P<0.01). FEV1 [(1.92±0.43)L/min] and FVC [(2.51±0.67)L/min] also were improved significantly (t=2.32, 6.95, all P<0.05). The levels of FEV1%pred, FEV1/FVC [(67.32±6.63)%, (77.82±8.39)%] showed no marked difference (t=2.15, 0.96, all P>0.05). ConclusionThe recovery period patients exist airway limitation in patients with severe or critical COVID-19, pulmonary rehabilitation therapy can effectively reduce dyspnea symptoms, enhance activity endurance, and improve lung function.
